About me

My name is Rich, and I am a fully qualified counsellor following three and a half years of training from the Heartwood Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling at Dartington College in Devon.

I am an accredited registrant with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), adhering closely to the ethical standards of both organizations.

Additionally, I am a British Wheel of Yoga certified teacher (BWYdip) and have practiced mindfulness for over thirty years, which deeply informs my approach to counselling and well-being.

My Approach

Choosing a therapist can feel daunting, especially when faced with an endless list of profiles.

It's so important to find someone with whom you feel safe and at ease, as this connection is key to making therapy successful. As an integrative counsellor with a person-centred approach, I am gentle and kind, and I’ll take the time to get to know you and understand the root causes of your dissatisfaction and distress.

With the right support, we all have the natural capacity to heal and reconnect with ourselves.

Your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are natural responses to the challenges you're facing right now. I don’t see you as an illness to be treated but as a unique individual seeking support to find your own path to healing, with a little guidance from someone who genuinely cares.

You are the expert on yourself, far more than I could ever be. My role is to offer a supportive, therapeutic relationship to help you uncover your own way forward. No matter the source of your current struggles, or how embarrassed, guilty, or uncomfortable you may feel, I will never judge you. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

How do I work?

I will never assume I fully understand your situation, but I will do my best to step into your shoes and walk alongside you, with curiosity and care, as your own solutions come into focus. .

I don’t position myself as an all-knowing expert, but instead as a humble companion on your healing journey, with the sole aim of helping you get back on your feet. I will be fully myself, bringing curiosity, humour, and compassion into our work together.

To support you in your journey of healthy change, I may offer ideas, questions, activities, and insights drawn from both my professional training and life experience. I might suggest lifestyle changes or activities that could help shift your perspective and support your healing process. Each session will be thoughtfully tailored to your unique needs.

Mindful Therapy

If you have an interest in Mindfulness, then I can support you in developing the ability to exist peacefully and non-judgementally in the present moment.

We can naturally let go of future worries and stop ruminating about the past.

Mindfulness also allows us to learn to savour and appreciate the beauty of our moment to moment awareness, so that we can feel grateful and appreciative of the simple joys of life that we can so often overlook in our busy lives.
